A Hamilton city councillor hopes to increase the revenues that the city receives from the operation of John C. Munro International Airport.
Chad Collins is spearheading a bid to review the lease agreement with Tradeport.
Collins acknowledges that we’ve seen growth, job creation and tax assessment on the cargo side of the business, but he insists that there’s room for improvement on the passenger side.
He notes that there were promises within the original lease to reach the million passenger count on the annual basis. That happened once in 2003. The most recent numbers are in the area of 300 thousand.
A motion to have city staff review the Tradeport lease has been approved by city councillors. Staff will report back in the fall.
