New breakwater structures have also been installed in the west harbour as part of what Senior Advisor Chris Phillips notes is an ongoing transformation.
He acknowledges meeting the needs of existing neighbourhoods, residents throughout the city and user groups along the west harbour has been a “balancing” act.
The city is trying to get the public back to the waterfront.
Philips acknowledged the “pollution” stigma that Hamilton’s waterfront faces, but hopes people will get back inside the water, as well.
Another upcoming project will involve a public promenade to be built around Pier 8.
