I am a casual playoff hockey fan but other than that I’m not really qualified to speak on the game over and above the play of my daughter or son.
However I do know entertainment and good TV when I see it.
The latest incarnation of Hockey Night in Canada was neither.
With a new multi-million dollar deal came new faces and a mandate to young up the show.
Ron McLean was replaced, George Stroumboulopoulos was brought in to lead the young charge.
The awkward mix of folk left most talking about the lack of chemistry, and Georges suit choice, rather than hockey.
You certainly can’t blame George entirely for the poor ratings, no Canadian teams in the playoffs doesn’t give you much to work with.
Some asked if the Leafs had won the cup would we even be having this discussion. Probably not.
But add to the fact they didn’t, plus messing with Hockey Night in Canada, just gives Southern Ontario fans more to cry about.
They have been tortured enough over the years.
I’m Scott Thompson.
