Hospitals in Hamilton and Burlington are hitting a COPD pilot project out of the park.
Hamilton Health Sciences and Joe Brant Hospital are among 19 Canadian health-care teams working to reduce hospitalizations for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Both hospitals have dramatically reduced emergency room visits for the chronic lung disease.
That includes a 76% drop in ER visits for COPD at HHS.
Instead of visiting a hospital, patients in the pilot project receive education and support from different sectors of the health-care system.
