The Red Cross is calling the rally of support for Alberta during a devastating wildfire a true Canadian moment.
The fire discovered at the beginning of May ravaged Fort McMurray forcing the evacuation of more than 80 thousand people and destroying more than two thousand structures.
Red Cross CEO Conrad Sauve says Canadians were quick turn this domestic campaign into the most successful in our post-war history.
“Over one million Canadians donated to the Red Cross to help the people of Fort McMurray and as we approach Canada Day we just want to say thank you.”
Over 136-million dollars has been donated to the Canadian Red Cross to date and that doesn’t include the federal government’s contribution.
To show appreciation for those who helped the Red Cross has made a free song called Proud available on it’s website that was written and donated by Sean McCann of Great Big Sea fame.
