A planned merger with the United Ways of Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills has been rejected by the board of the local organization covering Burlington and Greater Hamilton.
While 61 per cent of the local board voted in favour, the motion failed to get the required two-thirds majority.
However, CEO Jeff Valentin says the plan is not done just yet.
He says they will keep working at the merger because similar moves across North America in the non-profit sector have resulted in better efficiencies and one stop giving for major donors.
Under the plan, none of the combined agencies’ 39 full-time and 15 part-time staff would lose their jobs, but some might have a change of responsibilities.
