Property assessment notices are now in the mail for Hamilton homeowners.
On average, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation says values have increased by an average of 6.9% per year since 2012.
Director of Valuation Greg Baxter notes that MPAC looks at sales and compares properties to similar properties that have sold in a particular area.
If considering an appeal, Baxter says property owners should ask themselves if they could sell their property for its assessed value.
Areas where the increases are above the city-wide average include the north end, Locke Street and Westdale.
