It’s gone from bad to worse in one of the most horrendous weeks in recent American history.
Two questionable shootings of black men by police, one in Baton Rouge, one in Minnesota were not isolated incidents; over 500 people have been shot by police in recent months and it seems that finally, federal authorities are starting to understand that they have a crisis on their hands.
Then, last night in Dallas, the barbaric attack on police officers resulted in 11 officers being wounded and 5 of them dying as snipers systematically shot police.
Racial tensions are most certainly at the heart of this carnage, but the gasoline into that fire that no one wants to talk about is America’s obsession with guns.
When a cop approaches someone on American streets, they have to assume that individual likely has a gun, either legally or illegally and that dynamic most certainly increases an already tense situation.
Investigations will determine who did what in all of these horrible incidents; but in the meantime, more people will die.
Americans need to wake up to the fact that their biggest threat to their own security is from within; they are killing each other .
Black lives matter, police lives matter, all lives matter, but as long as Americans continue their obsession with guns, those lives are in danger.
