A 41 year old Hamilton police officer convicted of perjury and two counts of obstruction of justice in criminal court in June, has resigned from the service.
Robert Hansen’s resignation takes effect on August 5th.
He was convicted last month of trying get a source to plant a gun at the home of a suspect.
He is appealing both the conviction and the sentence.
After Constable Hansen was sentenced to five years in prison for the criminal code charges he was suspended without pay by the police service.
He is facing a police act charge of insubordination and that will be dealt with on August 23rd.
