The Ontario government has announced an investment in three Hamilton projects devoted to community development with a focus on youth.
Centre 3 for print and Media arts will be putting it’s 75 thousand dollar grant through the Trillium Foundation into a project called Shift.
Executive Director Colina Maxwell says it’s all about using arts as a vehicle for soft skills development in youth.
“What makes this different is that we’re not speaking to people, there’s not a power point presentation, it’s participatory learning.”
The 12 month program is slated to begin in September and will involve improv classes, visual arts and media arts.
Mission Services received the other two grants geared towards helping isolated community members and assisting low income youth pursue post secondary education.
Between the three initiatives more than 152 thousand dollars was awarded.
