Bus drivers in Hamilton will want to take note of this.
A memo to Ottawa council says the city’s transit agency will cut as many as 600 positions when a new LRT line opens in 2018.
Transportation officials say fewer buses will be needed when the new line opens, meaning fewer employees will be needed to operate and maintain the service.
Ottawa’s General Manager of Transit Services says some positions could be eliminated through retirements or by not filling existing vacancies.
About 100 new positions are expected to be created for LRT operators.
