A Thorold farm is in ruins after a fire levelled a barn and killed 80 dairy cows.
The fire at Greenview Farms on Saturday afternoon prompted several calls to 9-1-1 and by the time Thorold firefighters arrived on the scene the barn was fully engulfed.
Thorold fire chief Michael Seth says the blaze became so intense, steel beams in the barn glowed with heat.
There are no hydrants near the farm so water had to be brought in to combat the fire.
By that time, the barn was a write off and the effort turned to protecting other structures including a house.
The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to find the cause of the $1-million fire.
