A protocol for street checks by Hamilton police is still about six months away.
A draft has been presented to the police services board as an update.
Board chairman Lloyd Ferguson says the province will have to come out with its guidelines before anything is finalized at the local level.
He says between now and the start of the year there will likely be public consultations.
Ferguson says groups or individuals will have to register before presenting to the board.
He says the final word on whether there will be public delegations will be decided by the board.
