The CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship is returning to Hamilton in 2018.
McMaster will have another opportunity to win the Tantramar Trophy on home court, as Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced the Marauders as hosts of the 2018 CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship Thursday.
It will be McMaster’s fifth time hosting the tournament at the Burridge Gym.
Their silver medal in 2016, while hosting the 50th anniversary of the event, was the Marauders best-ever result on home court — having previously hosted in 1979, 2006 and 2007.
“Following the success of the event at the Burridge Gym in its 50th season, and the confirmation of Hamilton as a volleyball hotbed, McMaster is honoured to serve as host of the 2018 CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Glen Grunwald via media release.
“The strong foundation built in 2016 will be expanded upon, to provide an even better student-athlete experience for the best that CIS men’s volleyball has to offer. We look forward to working alongside our exemplary partners in the Hamilton volleyball community to present an event that our university, the City of Hamilton and Canadian Interuniversity Sport can be proud to call their own.”
Continuing to solidify their status as a regular contender at the national level, the Marauder men’s volleyball team won their fourth consecutive CIS medal in 2016, with two silver and two bronze over that span.
McMaster has never won a national title in men’s volleyball.
Their regular season gets underway at home on October 28, when the Marauders play host to the Guelph Gryphons.
