Following another assault on a nurse at St. Joseph’s Mental Health unit on West 5th, the union is urging the hospital to double up on staff when interacting with patients.
A Registered Practical Nurse was approached by a patient in the Schizophrenia Unit on Friday asking for help.
When she started to assist him, he tried to kiss her, then tackled her and she was groped before breaking free.
A hospital spokesperson says St Joe’s will review the event to determine if other safety measures are needed for staff and patients.
CUPE Local 786 boss Domenic DiPasquale says staff are at risk any time they are alone and hopes security teams will also begin hallway patrols as they do at St. Joseph’s Charlton site.
