Hamilton is inching forward with plans for a West 403 on-ramp from Mohawk Road.
Ancaster councillor Lloyd Ferguson was among the city representatives that met with the province this month.
He says the Ontario government is supporting the idea of a two lane on ramp, which may also have a traffic light entering the 403.
The Ministry of Transportation says the city has started an environmental assessment and preliminary design study.
The Mohawk Road on-ramp proposal emerged in 2011 as the preferred option among other suggested locations but has been stalled since 2014 after the second of two public meetings.
City officials estimate the cost of the on-ramp between $3 million and $6.5 million.
