West Nile Virus season is underway in Hamilton.
Residents are being reminded to take precautions after public health received results of positive mosquitoes, the first such result this year, in one trap near the downtown core.
The positive batch of mosquitoes is from one of 15 traps that are set weekly across the city.
The current risk for human illness has moved from low to moderate based on the result.
Most people infected with the virus will have no symptoms but some, especially seniors and those with weakened immune systems, may experience West Nile fever.
