The murder of a 65 year old woman at a downtown Hamilton highrise has left tenants in a tense and sombre mood.
Autopsy results confirm that Marilyn Mitton died after being stabbed seven times in the torso.
Investigators also say they believe she was stabbed before fire was set to the seventh floor unit in which her body was found on Sunday afternoon at 200 Jackson Street West.
One tenant, who does not want to be identified, says it’s the latest concerning incident at the CityHousing complex.
The male tenant, who has lived in the high rise for about four years, adds that “I feel safe here. I’ve always felt safe here. However when these things happen then you realize that there’s no apartment building, there’s no condo, that’s safe from this sort of thing.”
66 year old Wayne Bell, who lives in the same building and knew the victim, faces a charge of first degree murder.
