After a couple of weeks of holidays, driving Ontario highways, it troubles me to see that so many people can recount near-death experiences on our highways.
It’s caused some observers to question things like speed limits or photo radar and those are important discussions but it misses the main issue; Ontario drivers are becoming reckless.
My latest frightening experience was this past weekend, driving home on a two lane highway.
I became concerned when I saw an oncoming vehicle passing three cars at once in a no passing area and approaching me quickly.
Thankfully, it cut back into it’s own lane before it reached me, but just as I was breathing a sigh of relief, some idiot in a grey pick up truck went speeding past me in a no passing zone and cut me off, causing me and the cars in the oncoming lane to hit the breaks.
The whole thing happened in seconds, but it had all the ingredients of a multi-vehicle catastrophe; illegal passing, high speed and stupidity.
For all those people who think that traffic fines are just a tax grab, put yourself in the middle of a potential fatal collision caused by some clown breaking the law and see if that changes your opinion.
