I suppose we knew it was going to happen.
Actor/Director Clint Eastwood has come out to defend the racist, misogynist rants of Donald Trump.
Eastwood’s last foray into federal politics was when he talked at length to an empty chair at the last Republican Convention for reasons only he might understand.
Now, Eastwood says we need to ‘ get over’ Trump’s ignorant comments.
He says back when he grew up, the stuff Trump spews about Latinos and Muslims and women wasn’t considered racist.
I guess he wants to return to those days of racial segregation , when the only women or people of colour you saw in the nation’s boardrooms were there to serve coffee to the middle aged white guys sitting around the boardroom table.
Those were the days when a woman, or an Afro-American or a Jew or a Catholic would never dream of seeking political office, let alone aspire to be President.
Society, for the most part, has evolved and we’ve tried to eradicate the vindictive and xenophobic attitudes that previous generations accepted as normal.
We’re better than we used to be, but we have a long way to go.
Sadly, people like Trump and Eastwood are stuck in that intolerant time warp.
