It could be a month or two before we know the official cause of a fire that killed a Hamilton mother and her two children.
The fire on Saturday morning at a home on Niagara Street spread to the house next door and killed Victoria Maire, her son Robert and daughter Abigail.
The Fire Marshall’s office says while it has completed its investigation of the scene it was difficult because parts of the home were left unstable because of the fire.
Supervisor Lonnie Schubert says some areas, like the second and third floors, could not be fully examined and as a result it’s still not known if those areas had working smoke alarms.
Investigators are taking what they were able to find at the scene and are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
Their report will first go to the coroner and Hamilton Police before being released.
Meantime, a GoFundMe page has raised almost 11 thousand dollars towards the funeral costs for Maire and her two children.
The goal is 25 thousand dollars.
