The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed American free agent defensive back Brandon Sermons to the team’s practice roster.
Sermons, 25, recorded three defensive tackles and two special teams tackles in two games with the Ottawa Redblacks this season before being released on July 15.
The native of Bellflower, California appeared in nine games, starting one, over parts of two seasons (2015-16) with the Redblacks, registering nine defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles and one sack.
Sermons was originally signed as a free agent by Ottawa on May 28, 2015.
The 5-11, 195-pound defensive back spent time with the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals and Arena Football League’s San Jose SaberCats in 2014. Prior to turning pro, Sermons spent five years (2009-13) at UCLA.
In 42 games with the Bruins, he collected 46 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two passes defended.
