Right out of the gate, let me state that I support the idea of tapping into alternative energy sources for Ontario’s energy needs.
The Provincial government has made a huge , and some would say, controversial investment into wind turbines and solar panels to harness natural sources of energy.
Green energy is a worthy goal, but, the more important issue is affordability.
Global news has done a revealing series of reports of families in Northern Ontario who have had their power shut off because they couldn’t pay their bill.
Sadly, it’s happening all over the Province.
We’ve seen huge increases in hydro rates over the last few years to the point that when you tally up the ‘all in costs’, Ontario has the highest hydro rates in North America.
Adding insult to injury, experts are predicting that rates will climb even higher in the future.
The fallout from high hydro rates is dramatic.
Businesses who can’t afford the increases may look for more affordable provinces or states to set up shop.
And too many Ontario families are being forced to choose between paying the hydro bill or food for their families.
That shouldn’t be happening in a resource- rich province like Ontario.
Green energy is important, but people matter too; I’m not sure the government understands that.
