The series of events that led to the dramatic take down of an alleged terrorist should serve as a wake up call for all Canadians.
The fact that it happened in Strathroy , a small Ontario town tells us that it can happen anytime and anywhere.
Thankfully, this attempt was thwarted, but we are still faced with a number of troubling questions.
How did a suspect that was known to have sympathies toward terrorist groups gain access to explosive materials and produce an on line video when he was prohibited from doing so ?
And why did the FBI, and not Canadian authorities , who were supposed to be monitoring this guy, raise the issue of an imminent attack ?
What’s even more troubling is the revelation from security experts that Canada simply doesn’t have the resources to keep an eye on the hundreds of suspected ISIS sympathizers that they know about.
We don’t need to be paranoid, and we don’t need to target Muslims; this guy was born and raised in Canada and was clearly a disturbed soul who gravitated to an ideology that allowed him to vent his anger and hatred through violence.
It’s not time to panic, but we need to be vigilant and we need to provide our security forces with all the resources they need to deal with a clear and present danger.
