City Councillor Lloyd Ferguson says what was promised to the public when it comes to Tim Horton’s field is finally being delivered.
After a lengthy process, fraught with delays and contract disputes, the stadium is almost complete.
Ferguson says the city withheld money from Infrastructure Ontario and brought in a new local firm to not only finish the job but also sort out major safety concerns.
This includes an outdoor speaker system that came careening down multiple stories and into the stands back in June.
“Early indications are that what caused these brackets to fail is they put indoor brackets on rather than outdoor and you get into high wind and they start to rock or twist.”
The brackets have since been replaced as have a number of televisions on the concourse level that were made for indoor use.
Draft beer and pop is now on tap and any loose cup holders fixed.
Ferguson says Infrastructure Ontario was trying to get Ontario Sports Solutions to finish the job but that there were disputes over the scope of work.
