Federal Health Minister Jane Philpot continues to take heat for her less than full disclosure of limo expenses as she traveled around the Hamilton/ Toronto area a while back.
The good news is that Philpot has promised to reimburse the government for the cost of the limo; the bad news is that she didn’t offer to do so until the expense was made public.
Of course, Opposition MP’s have lambasted Philpot and a number of other Cabinet members for , what they say, are extravagant expenses, but there’s a stench of hypocrisy to the howls coming from the Opposition.
The reality is, they all spent taxpayers money with little or no regard for accountability.
The Senate expense scandal certainly brought this to our attention, but Members of Parliament share that same sense of entitlement when it comes to spending our money.
How many of those ‘outraged’ Opposition MP’s would be willing to release an accounting of their own expense spending ?
Philpot is right to pay back the cost of the limo, but her sin is really just the tip of the iceberg.
We need to remind our free spending politicians at all levels that it’s not their money and abusing expense accounts is an insult to Canadian taxpayers.
