Just like many other memorable life occasions, most Canadians of our generation will remember where they were and what they were doing when they saw the last Tragically Hip concert.
Most were not lucky enough to secure seats to their farewell tour but were able to take in their last show from the comfort of their own home or at one of the many community viewing events held across the county.
Decks, docks, patio’s, parties, BBQ’s, bring your owns, and even Canada House at the Olympics in Rio took in this truly Canadian occasion.
I was up north with no TV or wireless access and so thoroughly enjoyed the theatre of the mind over the radio while we BBQ’ed at sunset.
The raw emotion was even more evident without a visual.
When I watched it the next day the day it still had a tremendous impact.
It’s hard to remember the last time so many Canadians came together to celebrate something so uniquely Canadian.
But it certainly isn’t one they will soon forget.
I’m Scott Thompson.
