Five people had to be rescued after two boats capsized on Lake Ontario in Hamilton and Burlington.
The Hamilton Police marine unit helped two people after their catamaran capsized near Stoney Creek Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the two were wearing life jackets and had a cellphone in a Ziploc bag, which they used to call 911.
Three other people were rescued by a passing boater after their rented canoe capsized near the Burlington Bay shipping canal.
Two of the three canoeists were taken to Joe Brant Hospital to be check out for exposure or hypothermia.
