As students get ready to return to school we are seeing some troubling statistics.
Newly released data from the Ministry of Education shows Ontario’s schools need $15.4 billion in repairs.
The data shows a third of the province’s $4,600 schools are in poor condition.
278 are in critical condition, with most of them in Toronto.
The Hamilton Public School Board recently announced that 21 schools were listed in poor condition.
Board chair Todd White says most of the schools on the list were built in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and need repairs to their roofs, windows, doors and boilers.
In June, the province announced $1.1 billion dollars in extra funding for school repairs over the next two years.
