Concerned members of the Hamilton community are coming together to raise funds for those impacted by the devastating earthquake in Central Italy.
Community groups including many Italian-Canadian clubs met to discuss efforts in the coming weeks.
While no monetary goal has been specified, the Festitalia in September will be a focal point for fundraising.
In 2009, the network of groups raised 400 thousand dollars for the reconstruction of a hospital and seniors centre after an earthquake hit L’Aquila.
To date the death toll from the August 24th quake is estimated at 292 people with many other left injured and homeless.
A Holy Mass will be held on September 11th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Padua Church on Barton Street East in memory of the victims.
