If you’re a political news junkie like me you follow events that most don’t have time for, but are important none the less, for the success of our country.
One of those events is the race for leader for the federal Progressive Conservative Party.
Quick update. Former Minister of Justice, Peter MacKay, has dropped out of the race.
The candidate that seems to be getting the most attention, good or bad, is Kellie Leitch.
She is the MP that has called for a screening for “Canadian values” during the immigration process.
It sounds good to some, the rest it wreaks of right wing fear mongering.
My questions are?
How and who decides what Canadian values are, and how do we test for compliance?
And wouldn’t that be easy to fake?
For example, “I love Canada, I have found a better way”
Don’t we have laws in place that do that? Just enforce them.
You have to respect what is the law of the land (no matter where you are from) and that includes equality under our charter for all differences, not just religion.
To me, her suggestion would cloud the issue, more than clarify it.

Are we the City of Waterfalls, or not? How do we fix?
