A new affordable housing project by Indwell officially opened its doors in Hamilton, Friday.
The $2.5 million facility at 331 Strathearne Avenue has 39 studio units and is currently home to 30 tenants. Tenants started moving in during the spring and the final 9 units are expected to be filled by the end of the month.
A nurse, addictions counselor, and food and housing support are on site. Residents also have access to 24-hour on-call-supprot
The project is in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network. Close to $500,000 will flow annually from the LHIN through St. Joe’s to support the tenants. The city has also pledged to contribute $150,000 a year.
About half of the building’s tenants have some connection to St. Joseph’s West 5th mental health campus. Others were referred by professionals, family members, friends, themselves or the local Housing First initiative.
