Stoney Creek Councillors Doug Conley says he wouldn’t be so upset, if it wasn’t in a residential area.
His comments relate to Terrapure’s plan to expand the size and capacity of its landfill near Mud Street and Upper Centennial Parkway.
Conley notes that hundreds of homes are being built in that area, where the public school board has set aside land for future high school construction.
City Council has no decision-making power in regards to the landfill, but its concerns will be included within formal comments to Ontario’s Environment Ministry which does have the final say over the proposal.
Terrapure insists that local industry relies on their facility, adding that 93% of what goes into the landfill is produced in Hamilton, Niagara and the GTA.
