Many aspects of life are designed for the young and it can be perceived in western culture that as you age your worth becomes less.
That being said, it seems the pendulum may be swinging back.
Remember Freedom 55?
What happened to that? People are working beyond 65 now.
A couple of things:
First we’re living longer than we were even a few years ago.
You need a lot of savings if retired at 55 and live to 90.
Plus people would rather keep busy than rocking in a chair or gardening for 30 years and still have skills to offer.
Like a woman in her early 50’s who feels her age is being used against her after passing the prerequisite testing needed to become a police officer.
How do we judge whether someone is too old or not if they have qualified?
What we do know is, it will be a discussion we will hear more often, as our population ages.
Even if we have to turn up the volume.
