After losing a two million dollar contract to supply services to special needs children in daycare, Hamilton’s St. Matthew’s House is facing another problem.
It may have to pay severance to their 40 workers until they can find another job.
Executive Director Steve Leighfield says it could run into the tens of thousands of dollars, if not more, and the charity is not sure how to pay for it.
Those workers are represented by CUPE and Local 5105 president Marie Cantwell says she’s hopeful many of them will eventually find jobs at Community Living Hamilton.
It will now be handling support services for the special needs youngsters in daycare for the next five years.
