There’s a call for action on human sex trafficking which is being called one of Southern Ontario’s fastest growing crimes.
Conservative MPP Laurie Scott has taken part in a roundtable on Hamilton Mountain gathering support for a private member’s bill called “Saving the Girl Next Door”.
Flamborough Conservative M-P David Sweet notes that human sex traffickers are increasingly taking advantage of the 401/QEW corridor and he adds that 90% of victims are said to be Canadian-born.
Also taking part in the roundtable were Hamilton Police Chief Eric Girt, Ward 7 Councillor Donna Skelly, victims and advocates.
Scott’s bill, among other things, would expand the sex offender registry to include human traffickers and allow judges to issue a protective order for victims.
