Some new information is coming out about the man who was killed in an interaction with police over the weekend in downtown Hamilton.
36 year old Antony Divers was shot on James Street South near the Go Bus station early Saturday morning and the province’s Special Investigations Unit is in charge of the case.
In an interview with the Hamilton Spectator, Divers’ estranged wife says she was the security guard on duty outside the Dirty Dog Saloon and was the woman who was assaulted.
Madeleine Divers says her husband hadn’t slept for days, was mentally unstable, high on drugs, unable to speak and hearing voices.
She insists he didn’t have a weapon.
The Spec also says Divers had a previous conviction for manslaughter.
Madeleine Divers says she feels police should not have shot her husband but instead should have used a taser and offered him emergency mental health treatment.
The SIU has not said whether Divers had a weapon.
