What seems like an LRT funding ultimatum from the province comes as the City of Hamilton continues to discuss its LRT options.
Ward 7 councillor Donna Skelly says there are still many unanswered questions regarding the 1-billion dollar project.
Skelly calls the ultimatum “dangerous,” given that we are less than two years away from a provincial election and support for the governing Liberals is, as she describes, “tenuous.”
Skelly told CHML’s Bill Kelly Show, Hamilton should be allowed to spend the 1-billion dollars how city council believes it should be spent.
She says she’d rather spend the money on Hamilton’s BLAST network bus system, infrastructure projects and the wastewater treatment plant.
Skelly says she’d like the LRT project stopped, saying there are other options to improve Hamilton’s public transit system.
Councillors are expected to debate a motion to re-affirm their support for the LRT on October 25.
