108 years ago the Chicago Cubs won their second straight World Series title.
No one at the time thought it would be their last.
They’ve been to the World Series seven times since that great ’08 season, none since 1945, falling in the Fall Classic each time.
So is this the year?
ESPN put 31 of their baseball experts to the test by asking them to predict the playoff winners, round by round, starting with Tuesday night’s Blue Jays-Orioles Wild Card game.
18 of the 31 experts have chosen the Cubbies to win it all.
But only one of the 31 is predicting Toronto to go to the World Series, before losing to the Cubs, and that’s Canadian Adnan Virk who’s clearly showing his Red & White roots.
Homers aside, the Jays have as good a shot as any team to celebrate their season with a champagne shower this November.
The Blue Jays rotation has been one of the best in the majors all year long, they can hit the ball out of the park, and they are very good defensively.
So what if they didn’t win the division, the Bluebirds are one of the most balanced home and away teams in the majors.
Toronto finished four games behind Boston in the race for the A.L. East and had just six fewer wins than the Texas Rangers, who they’d face if they beat Baltimore.
Don’t underestimate the Blue Jays… they might just surprise you.
