In an effort to curb theft, the LCBO is slapping on BottleLox.
Similar to a clothing tag, this device will be clamped onto bottles, specifically spirits, and then removed when cashing out.
The idea was proposed by one of the Crown Corporation’s trade partners and rolled in a 10 store pilot project.
According to Spokesperson Genevieve Tomney there was a return on investment.
“Now we’re expanding it to approximately one hundred and thirty LCBO stores across the province and we’re going to have up to a total of one hundred and twenty-five thousand of these BottleLox on bottles.”
Tomney says what is stolen differs from store to store so the LCBO will leave the application of BottleLox up to staff.
