Hamilton Police have completed the first year of operation safe and sober with a total of 32 charges being laid.
The boating safety campaign hit the water on May 1st with a focus on increasing awareness of safe boating practices, sober operation, and safe navigation around commercial vessels.
Of the 337 vessels stopped during the campaign, 39 per cent had 1 or more violations, most of which were met with verbal warnings and education.
However, 25 charges were laid under the Canada Shipping Act, 6 under the Liquor Licence Act, and 1 Criminal Code.
An impaired boater was also taken off the water over Labour Day weekend and ultimately charged with refusing a breath sample.
