The city is casting a “wide net” as it begins its search for a developer to build a new residential community on Pier 8.
A strategy presented to the west harbour subcommittee starts with pre-qualifications, looking at the track records, financial capacity and “values” of potential bidders.
Project lead Chris Phillips says those who make it through that phase will bring forward proposals, including design and business plans.
The city hopes to announce a chosen developer by early 2018.
Councillor Chad Collins stresses that they’ll choosing someone who is “in sync” with council and the community’s vision of small to medium-density. The construction of affordable units is also highlighted as a city priority.
West harbour development plans call for more than 15-hundred residential units with retail and other
amenities as part of nine development packages of land that total 5.4 hectares.
