The family of a man being treated in Hamilton hospitals say they are facing bankruptcy because of changes in Ontario’s auto insurance system.
34 year old Adam Bari was left in a coma after his motorcycle was t-boned on a rural road in Delhi on June 1.
He’s was left with brain trauma, internal organ damage and multiple broken bones.
But because of changes in Ontario insurance guidelines his injuries are no longer considered severe enough to be deemed catastrophic.
His lawyer says if the crash had occurred before the changes, Bari would have been eligible for up to 2 million dollars in compensation.
Instead, he’s received just 86 thousand dollars.
The lawyer says that’s about the same amount of money available to somebody who broke their toe in an accident.
