I usually leave the sports commentary to expert Rick Zamperin unless of course it involves auto racing then I’m all over it…
And normally I would do that with last night’s NHL opener featuring the Leafs in Ottawa.
However with two kids playing hockey they’ll use any excuse to stay up later and decided to watch the game.
Not many are expecting much from the Leafs this year with being a young team and rebuilding year.
But finally after getting the first round draft pick with Auston Matthews the future seems bright.
Coach Babcock told him to just play his game, and he did, plus more than that.
He scored his first NHL goal, in first NHL game. Then added two more for the hat trick and an extra for fun.
What an exciting time for his parents, family, and friends who were at the game?
Watching his parents kiss after his 1st goal made me think of the long road they must have travelled to give their son the opportunity he has.
After four, they must be over the moon.
As proud as we all are, when we see our kids accomplish great things.

Does Auston Matthews signal a new era for Leafs?
