In an issue as contentious as LRT, I suppose you have to expect that there will be dissenting points of view, not just within the community, but on City Council as well.
That’s why I accept that some Councilors have, for various reasons, decided to oppose LRT; I think they’re wrong and I disagree with their logic, but our democratic system gives them the right to oppose.
However, when Councilor Terry Whitehead blames City Staff for the current LRT dilemma, he’s going too far.
Whitehead has doubled down on a statement he made on The Bill Kelly Show last week, when he stated that he feels he’s been misled by City Staff about the legal ramifications of the memorandum of understanding between the City and Metrolinx regarding LRT.
I reminded Councilor Whitehead that Councilors have the opportunity to question Staff about all elements of any report, an exercise that Councilor Whitehead constantly uses and sometimes abuses.
The point is, if Whitehead had questions about the agreement he could have and should have asked for clarification from Staff.
You can’t attack Staff for not answering a question that wasn’t asked !
Using City Staff as scapegoats for the LRT conflict that Council created is yet another example of councilors behaving badly.
City Staff , and we, the voters, deserve better !
