The search continues for creative solutions to Hamilton’s affordable housing crisis.
A motion presented by CityHousing Hamilton chair Chad Collins aims to incorporate the existing Community Living Hamilton use within a high density, mixed use and mixed income development at 175 York Boulevard.
The motion, approved by the general issues committee and supported by Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr will see the city gather expressions of interest from the private sector.
Collins adds that while it’s still in the exploratory stages, the project would make better use of a city-owned property in the core while taking advantage of a hot real estate market.
There are currently about 6,100 seniors, families and individuals on Hamilton’s social housing waitlist.
