The City of Hamilton has suffered a legal defeat.
The Ontario Court of Appeal has released its decision regarding the installation of community mailboxes, ruling that Canada Post does not have to cooperate with municipalities when choosing locations.
The ruling, essentially, is that the crown corporation’s constitutional rights override municipal bylaws.
The city’s goal was to force Canada Post to align with existing infrastructure and plans related to traffic, accessibility, snow clearing and proper lighting. The challenge was launched as Canada Post replaced door-to-door mail delivery across the mountain.
