Mayor Fred Eisenberger says yesterday’s meeting and update on the LRT project was fruitful and he appreciated all opinions expressed by citizens.
In his monthly town hall on CHML’s Bill Kelly Show, the mayor says there are some major issues that he understands are cause for concern to many, including the impact five years of construction will have on businesses along the route.
He says for him, monetary compensation is not an option and that it can set a dangerous precedent for any future construction or development in the city.
He adds that the city didn’t compensate businesses along Concession Street, Queenston Road or Centennial Parkway during construction of those arteries.
However, what they did do and will do with this project, is look at ways the city can mitigate the impact.
The mayor says the city continues to be engaged on the issue and has people canvassing area businesses to see what their needs are and how the city can help.
