The NDP’s provincial by-election candidate in Niagara West-Glanbrook says improved long-term care for seniors must be a priority.
Mike Thomas is highlighting the elderly story of a couple in the riding, who will have been married for 70 years in December, but are currently living in separate facilities in Grimsby and St. Catharines.
She says it’s time for the Liberal government “to step up and prioritize the care to our seniors in this riding and across the province”.
NDP Health Critic France Gelinas blames the couple’s separation on CCAC rules and regulations involving “priority lists”, adding that the provincial agency could do the right thing and “correct the wrong”.
Thomas is up against 19 year old Conservative Sam Oosterhoff, Liberal Vicky Ringuette and the Green Party’s Donna Cridland.
The Niagara West-Glanbrook by-election is set for November.17th.
