I am the first to embrace new technology if it makes my life easier, especially when it involves transportation.
I’m still a fan of cruise control.
Who would have thought when Henry Ford rolled off his first model T that someday we would see a fully self-driving automobile?
Just this week transportation minister Marc Garneau announced that all vehicles will have rear view cameras by spring of 2018.
I’m not sure if greater technology makes us better drivers.
For example, we were always thought to turn around with an arm over the back of the front seat when reversing a car, (looking out the rear window).
Now with new rear view cameras you have to keep your eyes front in order to see the screen.
So how do you look backwards and frontwards at the same time?
Will drivers do both or just what’s easiest?
The more we rely on tech, the less we do our natural driving senses.
Forget technology, I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to drive me around.
I’m Scott Thompson.
